For our tutorial we are using manmade Vellum Papers for the Arts and Crafts market. Traditional Vellum is made from calfskin. Not using that! Today, there are many faux vellum and vellum-type papers out there in several different weights and colors. You can even find Heavyweight Translucent Vellum Cardstock. I tested several different weights and types – Vellums, Tracing Paper, and a translucent Parchment Paper. TIP: From my research, I prefer a 32-40 lb. HINT: Heavier weight papers and cardstocks tend to tear when embossed, but this can be used to your advantage in many ways. You can see the different levels of translucency in the dark areas under the paper.Ī word about the embossing folders. An embossing folder is made of a heavy plastic which is folded in two. It has a pattern or design moulded into it. ![]() It has a positive side where the pattern is raised and a negative side where the design is recessed. The folders come in a few different sizes and different styles. There are thin folders, Medium folders, thick textured folders, and thicker 3D folders. Most are designed to fit a standard size machine. The standard sizes are: 4″x 6″ and 5″x 7″. I have seen a few other sizes: 1” border designs, 3”x 4” designed for Artist Trading Cards, and a few larger – 6-1/2″ x 4-1/2″, 8” x 8”, and 8-1/2” x 11”designs. Won't stop me going back, but is probably stopping me from having an entire meal rather than a quick stop.I can use the majority of folders as long as one of the dimensions is under 6″. I also think there should be prices displayed for goods on offer, presumably there are menus which contain them but had been removed in preparation for close. ![]() Can't fault anything I've ever eaten there and I feel it's good value - £13 for 2 coffees, a can of Coke and 3 cakes on this occasion - but it's not the pleasantest environment to sit in. During our short stay today the very pleasant young lady who served us cleared several tables but there was no attempt to wipe them, straighten messed up table cloths, return high chairs, sweep crumbs off chairs or clear rubbish and food debris, which was abundant, off the floor and I've thought the same thing on all of my visits. It was towards the end of service that we visited which may also have some bearing on my one complaint - the place is always filthy. Coffee today I enjoyed greatly which probably means it would be a bit on the weak side for a real aficionado - my son often says I don't drink coffee, I drink coffee milkshakes! The cakes we had were delicious but did look a bit forlorn in their plastic bag covered slates in the display cabinet. The ice creams are great with some nice unusual flavours and good value. It's a lovely setting, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. We often go to Vallum farm for a coffee and cake on a Sunday as we live very close. After finding a clean table outside and finishing the ice cream, I collected the used tubs to find somewhere to discard them unfortunately, there were no litter bins outside and I couldn't see any inside, although I did subsequently find one in the toilets which was full and overflowing, so I added the tubs to the piles on the uncleaned tables that were still there from our arrival. The ice cream itself was cold but very average, lacking flavour and smoothness, with ice crystals having formed within the ice cream. This charge is not displayed next to the till or anywhere else. In this modern age of contactless payment, don't expect to use it and have an extra 30p added to your bill if you do use a debit card. It was still mid afternoon and they could have easily refilled the multitude of empty containers and given the paying customers a better choice. The selection of ice creams reminded me of the Monty Python cheese shop sketch, although in fairness they did actually have some ice cream, but the choice was severely limited. The tables remained that way for the 30 minutes we were there. The disappointment started when I noticed that the empty tables were littered with used cups, trays and ice cream tubs. I can only comment on the ice cream parlour as this was the only place we went into, although it was within the tea room building and some comments apply to that. I'd heard good things about Vallum Farm and decided to call in for an ice cream with my mother after having a wonderful meal elsewhere.
